TRIUNE

Yours, Mine, Ours.

Cyanotype, mixed media, and gum bichromate prints. 2022

“Yours, Mine, Ours; Triune,” is what could only be described as my mind “making a self-portrait of itself.” It is a brief look into my own mind, body, and soul, and the unity, yet separation between these three.

I was initially inspired by the question “Where does the soul lie within the body?” Which then sparked the thought that arose while brainstorming this project, “Who is speaking right now within my brain? Am I (the voice speaking internally) a manifestation of the physical brain or the metaphysical soul? If I am not you, then who are we in relation to each other?” which was then compressed into the question “Am I the mind or are you?” To clarify, “you,” “me,” and “we” are what I have identified as triune units of my own internal mechanism.

The scientific and metaphorical relationships between both the tangible and intangible within the confinements of the human body are some of humanity’s greatest mysteries. The soul, inner child, brain, body, unconscious mind, subconscious mind, conscious mind, and different combinations of the aforementioned are all units that I touch upon within this body of work, which all manifest through things such as reincarnation, inner children, and the womb (a portal to bring souls earthside).

She is older and wiser than me. My inner child slumbers inside of my bruised chest like a tiny hummingbird in her nest. Tucked between my thoracic vertebrae and sternum. Her dreams keep my life blood flowing, by sending electrical impulses through an ancient, thin silver chain that keeps us connected.
